This year’s event, taking place on April 6, might be the buzziest yet. With Zachary Quinto as honorary chair, the auction features packages including a trip to men’s fashion week in Paris, complete with a stay at the Royal Monceau; a trip to New York fashion week; and—perhaps best of all—airfare and two tickets to Elton John’s Oscar party. The organization has also partnered with Gavel&Grand to allow for pre-bidding online for offers ranging from a Proenza Schouler bag to a three-night stay at any Waldorf Astoria hotel to the world’s most expensive vibrator from Lelo.
Now in its 13th year, the event has become a well-oiled machine thanks to Kalinsky’s expertise. “I’ve got a goal of trying to deliver 80 to 85 cents on the dollar into the hands of the charities. That means that we’ve got to try to produce an entire evening for under $150,000, which in New York City is very, very, very difficult,” Kalinsky told Style.com of the process. “Raising the money and keeping the costs down are the two most challenging parts. The rest is really easy and fun. We realize that a lot of the people who come are coming to just have fun, to have a drink, to sit down, to watch a fashion show, and to see these amazing, handsome guys,” he laughed. “And that’s how we raise the money.”
