If people ever think about me professionally they think about me as a “mens agent” But that truly is not how I started. Irene Marie gave me a chance When I was 20 years old to work for her agency and Shana was a black and white xerox on a large wall of new faces. I would constantly ask the other agents that worked there why don’t we ever hear from her ?Does she live in America? And I was told usually with an eyeroll that she married a rich guy and isnt modeling. I took it upon myself to call her (this was 1990 or 1991) There was no emails Instagram DM’s Tweets :you had to call somebody to get them on the phone. And I called her every day until she called me back. I asked her if she would meet with me and after much convincing she agreed. Shana and I became fast friends. She actually had modeled with @elitenyc . She lived in Greece. She came out of the same competition of the ELITE MODEL search that I believe #elaineirwin won . I may have some of my facts wrong because I haven’t really thought about this at length since perhaps 1995..As the Legends goes (or perhaps just my recollection)she and Elaine lived together in NYC at the same time (with Elite Models I believe ) and it never happened for her while Elaine became a mega star. I am going to assume this is 1988 /1989 .Shana thanked me for my interest and was truly touched by my belief in her but felt that shipped had sailed.I begged her to give me a little bit more latitude and let me set up a test with a local photographer #alexpons and my best friend to this day @mradrian68 and I would style it. She reluctantly agreed. I asked another new model @robertmerrillstudio to join the test as well(Back then I would be up at the crack of dawn styling photo shoots with my new faces and then get to work by 9am and then work till 9pm and do it all over again seven days a week that’s how it was done back then) That test woundup on the back of Robert’s compcard got the attention of @marrakech_brooklyn and the rest is history #grateful #history #humbled #fbf
